What is MME?
Magnetic Molecular Energizing (MME) is similar to an MRI, but is a treatment rather than a diagnostic tool. It enhances the body's ability to make stem cells, and helps all tissue regenerate faster than usual.

What is AMRI?
AMRI of North Carolina was founded to offer MME treatment under the guidelines of an Investigational Review Board consistent with FDA regulation. Please note that MME treatment is considered to be experimental by the FDA.  Although many patients have achieved their treatment goals, no guarantee of success is implied.

What conditions benefit from MME Therapy?
MME Therapy has been shown to be helpful for the treatment of a variety of conditions that have proved resistant to conventional medical therapies, including Cerebral Palsy, brain injury, Chronic Fatigue, Stroke impairment, Orthopedic Conditions, Chronic Pain, Spina Bifida and others. See Conditions Listing for a comprehensive list.

Will insurance pay for MME treatment?
No, insurance does not cover investigational devices and therapies. MME treatment is considered to be experimental by the FDA.

How long does it take?
For most conditions, especially neurological, each treatment session is conducted for a minimum of 4 hours, and often up to 12 hours. A treatment program generally lasts for 2 weeks, and gives the patient up to 150 hours of treatment. Each patient must be evaluated for entrance into the program, and each program is individually designed.

The amount of magnetic therapy required to effect healing of most sports injuries can be significantly less that the amount required for treatment of neurological conditions. Patients have experienced pain relief and increased mobility in as little as 20 hours of MME treatment. While the amount of MME treatment required will vary with the severity and age of the injury, patients who live in the Piedmont Triad can easily incorporate the MME treatment into their normal routine.

Is the effect permanent?
In most cases, yes. After the designated hours, the benefit improves further during the first month, and often remains at that level. Many patients return for more program sessions to obtain greater benefits as time permits.

Is MME safe?
Yes, MME has undergone safety testing and toxicity evaluation with the Food & Drug Administration as an investigational device. There are no known harmful effects. However, individuals with implanted medical devices such as aneurysm clips in the brain, heart pacemakers, and cochlear (inner ear) implants are not eligible for MME treatment. Read more About Magnetic Molecular Energizing.

Is nursing care provided?
No, AMRI is a research facility, not a hospital. Patients must have a caregiver accompany them.

What is the experience like for a patient?
All patients must be medically evaluated by Dr. Pearce, and accepted into the treatment program. The patient will spend about 12 hours per treatment session lying on a bed between two large magnets. Comfortable clothing, such as workout clothes or pajamas, should be worn. "Magnet time" is often scheduled at night so that patients sleep through the treatment sessions. Patients don't experience any unusual or painful physical sensations while under the magnets.

Each treatment room has a private bathroom, with showers. There are no TVs, VCRs or radios in the treatment rooms; generally, patients may have visitors during daytime treatment hours. AMRI has a fully equipped kitchen for everyone's convenience; however, each visitor is responsible for purchasing their own food, preparing and cleaning up after their meals.

As a caregiver, how do I best prepare for a treatment program at AMRI?
First, complete the Patient Needs Questionnaire. This will help you focus on key elements necessary to make the AMRI experience as smooth and comfortable as possible. Send the questionnaire to us, and we'll respond with a custom accommodation program for you. We will also share the experience of patients with similar conditions, and how their caregivers cope.
